Fine French double bass attributed to Leon Bernardel of Paris circa 1880, the two piece swell back of handsome medium curl with similar wood to the sides and head, the table of a broad width grain and the varnish of a rich red-brown colour on a golden ground, back length 45", stop length 24", vibrating string length 42.25"

*This instrument is the property of a retired professional double bass player and is in a very good state of preservation except for an old questionable repair to the neck, so the double bass is sold with a maple neck block which has been carefully chosen to match the wood curl and could be used to replace the current neck block.

The attribution to Leon Bernardel comes from the player who owned this instrument and based on the characteristic style, varnish and period. This may not be an attribution that some people will agree with and there are no certificates which accompany the instrument.

There is no indication whatsoever of a maker for this cello and there are no certificates with it either, see images for guidance, personal viewing always advised where possible
