**Provenance in the vendor's own words:
'The Gillett & Bland Clock has been in the family since it was purchased brand new by my great great grandfather and was designed and incorporated within his magnificent and imposing Victorian Manor called ‘The Red House’ which was in Duppas Hill, South London. It is the first time this clock has come to market, since new
As a highly skilled mechanical engineer, he treasured the clock so much that he deliberately designed the structural aspect of The Red House clock tower to enable it to be (semi) easily removed if and when the need ever arose
The clock was indeed carefully/professionally removed some eighty years later when the house was sold (following bomb damage during WWII) and my father then installed it into his elaborate courtyard roof, where it sat for another two decades above his superb collection of historic/racing cars'
