£4,800
English ebonised double fusee verge table clock, the movement back plate signed James Clowes, Londini Fecit, fitted with outside countwheel engraved to the centre with a Tudor rose, the 6.75" square brass dial with silvered chapter ring enclosing a matted centre and calendar aperture, within a later stepped case surmounted by a caddy top and ornate brass carrying handle, 15" high (pendulum and door keys)
We have subsequently discovered that this clock was sold at at Sotheby's Auction on 1st October 1997 (lot 485) for around £10,000.
General condition is reasonable but we believe the case has been considerably altered or possibly a marriage, the movement is Dutch striking on two bells and was known to be running several years ago but we have not tested it. The countwheel appears to have been altered and is now supported by a later plate behind, the teeth may have been altered too, the dial appears to be original to the movement.
