Fees

Square piano by Christopher Ganer, London circa 1780, the mahogany case with boxwood and satinwood crossbanding, the fascia board crossbanded in satinwood, harewood, and boxwood, the five octave keyboard FF to f3, with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals, single action with over-dampers, three brass-knobbed hand stops upon a frame stand with square tapered legs united by a shelf stretcher, inscribed on a boxwood plaque on the fascia board Christopher Ganer Londini Instrument maker, Broad Street, Golden Square, London, length 153cm, width 50.50cm

**Although the name board is inscribed 'Christopher Ganer Musical Instrument Maker' which suggests a date after 1784, it is probable that the name board was overwritten for resale and the actual date of manufacture is earlier. The absence of a bottom f sharp, the key escutcheon, that the dampers have built in pivoting rods and the overall style suggests this is an earlier date

More Information

This piano appears in playing condition and will have been reconditioned/restored at some point in the last 20/30 years, but we have no details of the work undertaken generally speaking the case and movement appear in reasonable condition for age except that the ivory keys very stained and chipped towards the front edges also the label on the facia board is very faded, there is some evidence of old treated worm on the underside of the keyboard, see images for guidance, personal viewing advised
