£800 - £1,200
1963 Gretsch Country Gentleman hollow body bass guitar, made in USA; Body: sunburst finish, checking and general wear including blemishes and scratches, vacant strap button hole to treble horn; Neck: refinishing in neck/head area possibly concealing a neck repair, further blemishes and marks; Fretboard: ebony; Frets: refret; Electrics: working although jack requires minor adjustment due to intermittence; Hardware: generally good, stick bass modification to end pin; Case: period soft bag; Overall condition: fair
See images for general condition guidance. We are not saying that the neck has categorically been repaired, however the refinish in this area suggests it could have been. There is not obvious evidence under the finish and has been done in a tidy manner if so. The neck to body join is clean and stable. Body binding appears ok and no evidence of typical Gretsch rot. Refret is ok, but has been carried out by an amateur. The string mute is functioning, although the pad is worn and some adjustment needed to allow it to meet the strings. The end pin is in place, however the spike is not. There is also a strap button installed to the side of this. The action is ok and scope for the bridge to be heightened if needed. The bridge is currently set as low as it will go. There is a vacant strap button hole on the treble side, where someone has previously has one installed, however this would not have been original.
