English violin circa 1780 by and labelled Made and Sold by Chas & Saml Thompson, in St Paul's Churchyard, London; also branded Thompson's, London below the button on the back, the one piece back of medium curl with similar wood to the sides, the head of plainish wood, the table of a fine width grain slightly widening to the flanks and the varnish of a reddish-brown colour on a golden ground, 13 15/16", 35.40cm

There is a sound post crack in the back and the head is later, there are further cracks in the table, see images for guidance, personal viewing advised
