Fine English ebonised triple fusee bracket clock, the 7" brass arched dial signed Paul Rimbault, Denmark Street, Soho, London 1771 to the silvered dial centre, with subsidiary calendar aperture, enclosed by a silvered chapter ring and surmounted by a later subsidiary dial to the arch with selection hand for ten bell chime/Whittington, chimes/eight bell chimes and strike/silent lever, the movement with quarter chiming train and playing on a nest of ten bells and striking the hours on another, with meandering foliate engraved back plate and locking pendulum, within a stepped case with gilded brass caryatid mounts to the four corners, surmounted by four gilt brass acorns, a caddy top and carrying handle, 21.5" high (pendulum & Key)
** This clock has been converted from verge to anchor escapement
Interesting clock but in need of restoration, the case and mounts in reasonable condition with some re-gilding required, the back door with hairline cracks and broken glass, the movement has been converted from verge to anchor escapement and the subsidiary dial in the arch is later and with loss of silvering to the main chapter ring and enclosed dial centre, although the movement has been modified in Victorian times, we believe it is essentially original to the case, the clock is not currently working and in need of a complete overhaul, although we believe all parts are present.
