English violin by and labelled William Robinson, Plumstead, London, A.D. 1924 no. 103; also bearing the makers initial, W.R. inscribed in ink on the label, the two piece back of faint medium curl with similar wood to the sides and head, the table of a medium/fine width grain and the varnish of a plum red colour on a golden ground, 14 1/8", 35.90cm
**This William Robinson violin, no103, has been in the same family for nearly 99 years. it was originally purchased in 1924 by the vendors grandfather Arthur Thomas
and the original purchase receipt accompanies the lot. He was a violinist in the orchestra onboard the SS Minnetonka Ocean Liner operated by the North Atlantic Transport (White Star Line ) sailing the north Atlantic mainly between London or Boulogne and New York City from 1924 to 1934.
