Fine 18th century Italian double bass unlabelled, the back of faint medium curl with similar wood to the sides, the head of plainish wood, the table of a medium width grain and the varnish of a dark reddish-brown colour on a golden ground, length of back 41", stop length 22", vibrating string length approximately 40.5"

There have been numerous repaired cracks in the table including in the sound post and bass bar areas, there have been further repaired cracks in all the ribs and further repaired cracks in the back including a sound post crack and replacement wood on the treble side, the head has been re-bushed and grafted onto a later neck.
