*This is an early pre-production Nick Lucas Special acoustic guitar manufactured in April of 1927. It is not known the exact date of when Nick Lucas received his original custom Gibson guitar but it is thought likely that it was ordered during a factory tour of June 1925. Lucas later stated that he took delivery of the original guitar in 1925. The regular production version of the Nick Lucas Special debuted three years later in March 1928 and was in constant production until 1937. There are many guitars that predate the production model that have Nick Lucas type features with factory order numbers dating to April and July of 1927. An explanation for these pre-production examples is that Nick Lucas was in the habit of gifting guitars. Another possibility is that due to Lucas' popularity, he created an organic demand for guitars like his Gibson Special. In either case, it has been known for some time that Gibson made multiple copies of the original Nick Lucas guitar in 1926 and 1927
