£300 - £500
Eric Clapton interest - early 1960s Gibson Les Paul/SG electric guitar hard case, bearing blue tape inscribed 'Christie's #59' to the case side and bearing a partial white tape label to the top end of the case inscribed 'Cherry red - trem S.G. Les Paul'
*Thought to be the original guitar case for Eric Clapton's 1962 Gibson SG Les Paul Standard electric guitar, sold as lot number 17 at the Christie's Eric Clapton Guitars in Aid of the Crossroads Centre auction, held on 24th June 1999.
The vendor owned this guitar for a while, eventually selling it. Thinking the original case "was not fit for purpose" when sending it off, he kept it.
The original Christie's lot listing states 'Black hard shell contour case with yellow plush lining and Lee Dickson's handwritten adhesive paper label 'Gibson S.G. Les Paul 47769 cherry red - trem'. This adhesive white label is present on this case, although it is now partially missing the edges, which includes the serial number.
