The Alarm - Studio and stage used 1977 Marshall JMP 2204 Master Model 50 watt Mark 2 Lead guitar amplifier head, made in England, ser. no. S/A08988J, bearing an 'Alarm' stecil to the back

** Bought new in 1977, this Marshall Master Volume 50w amp has been owned by The Alarm ever since. First used when the band was called 'Seventeen' between 1978 and 1980. The 'Alarm' stecil on the back below Gaffer tape above also hides a second 'Alarm' stencil. The band was originally going to be called 'Alarm Alarm', until John Peel cracked a joke about double barrel band names, so the group became The Alarm and the gaffer tape was used to hide the second 'Alarm'. It was used (mainly by Dave Sharp and Eddie Macdonald), throughout the early 1980’s and retired from the road around 1987. It was used on every Alarm album throughout the 1980’s and also on many sessions in recent times, particularly on 'In The Poppy Fields', 'Under Attack', 'Guerilla Tactics' and 'Direct Action'. It was also used heavily by both Mike Peters and Billy Duffy (The Cult), when recording the first Colousrøund album in North Wales back in 1999.

More Information

Externally, the amplifier is very scruffy with snags and tears all over and some tape repairs. After a brief test, the amp appears to power up and appears mostly working, however it does start emitting a high pitched squeal as the preamp control is dialled up and would require further investigation.
