Neapolitan mandolin attributed to Antonio Vinaccia, Naples, the back of twenty-two fluted ribs, the table inlaid with a shaped mother of pearl plaque below the bridge and a tortoiseshell plaque above the bridge, the sound hole surround with mother of pearl segments set in black mastic, with a tortoiseshell overlaid fingerboard, the face of the peg box overlaid with tortoiseshell and bone, the neck overlaid with strips of ebony and bone, reverse friction pegs, labelled Antonio Vinaccia Fecit Neapoli Anno 1780
