Handmade classical guitar by Edwin Barker, August 1961, the label inscribed 'Viva Fui insylvis, Dura accisa securi, Dum vixi tacui, mortua dulce cano'; Back and sides: Indian rosewood, surface scratches and dings; Top: natural spruce, hairline to centre top, over-varnishing and general wear; Neck: mahogany; Fretboard: rosewood; Frets: oxidisation and tarnishing; Hardware: good; Case: homemade fitted hard case; Sound length: 650mm; Nut width: 55mm; Overall condition: fair
*Made for the vendors father by his friend, Edwin Barker. The label inscription translates to "While I was alive I was wild, I was cut down by the axe, While I lived I was silent, and when I died I sang sweetly"
Small minor non structural hairline to upper back. Slight rippling to top at lower bout behind bridge - fairly typical and not considered a concern (just worth mentioning). Frets work. Fretboard could do with cleaning. Scratches and marks, mainly located to the back. Neck appears straight. Action could be improved, although there is enough left on the saddle to allow for this.
