18th century English violoncello in need of restoration faintly inscribed J. Brown, London... to the inner back, the two piece back of very faint medium/broad curl with similar wood to the sides, the head of plainish wood, the table of a medium width grain and the varnish of a dark plum red colour on a golden ground, 28 3/4", 73cm
This instrument is in very poor condition with sound post cracks to the back and front and a bass bar crack, evidence of worm infestation to the lower bouts of the table underneath the tailpiece, further cracks to all the ribs and head with evidence of wood worm there too.
