Good French double bass by and stamped Paul Claudot below the button on the back, bearing a repairer's label of George Hoggett dated 1915 and a later repairer's label of C. Alexander dated 9th July 1960, the two piece back of faint medium/fine curl with similar wood to the sides and head, the table of a fine width grain and the varnish of a reddish-brown colour on a golden ground, back length 46", stop length 25.5", vibrating string length 42.25"
The table of this double bass has numerous cracks, all clearly visible in the images, there are also two long cracks running adjacent to each other on the back of the treble side, further less significant cracks to the ribs, varnish and figuring of wood very pleasing.
