£2,800
Interesting late 18th century English violoncello of the Morrison School, unlabelled, the two piece back of birds eye maple and the sides of a medium/fine curl, the head of a faint medium/fine curl, the table of a medium and fine width grain and the varnish of a chestnut brown colour on a golden ground, 28 3/4", 73cm, case
*This instrument is sold with a nickel mounted violoncello bow stamped E.R. Voigt & Son on the frog
There does appear to be a faint hairline crack in the soundpost area on the back. There have been repairs to the upper bouts on the table under the fingerboard and also to each of the upper ribs where the neck joins the body, there has been further restoration to the lower base side rib, the repairs undertaken to the ribs is in our opinion semi professional and the varnish does not match in well to the original, there are several minor small cracks on the table clearly visible in the images, see all images for guidance, personal viewing advised.
The length of the neck is 10 7/8"
