French gilt and patinated metal automaton quarter deck striking novelty mantel clock, signed Guilmet, Paris, circa 1890, with rocking automaton helmsman at the ships wheel before a binnacle and moving with the swing of the pendulum, a ladder to the lower deck with standing mariner holding a rope either side of a 2.5" gilt metal dial with Roman numerals, the twin dial movement striking on a gong and the back plate stamped GLT, Paris, Medaille D'or, BTe SGDG, no. 1435, upon an angled stepped black marble base supported upon four brass feet, 12" high, 11.25" wide, 8.5" deep
