French gilt and patinated metal automaton quarter deck striking novelty mantel clock, signed Guilmet, Paris, circa 1890, with rocking automaton helmsman at the ship's wheel before a binnacle and moving with the swing of the pendulum, a ladder to the lower deck with standing mariner holding a rope either side of the 2.5" gilt dial with Roman numerals, the twin barrel movement striking on a gong and the back plate stamped GLT, Paris (for Guilmet) Medaille D'or,
BTe SGDG., upon an angled stepped black marble base supported upon four brass feet, 12" high, 11.25" wide, 8.5" deep (pendulum and key)
This clock does not look like it has been running for many years, the striking train is working but not the going train and may be only in need of a good clean and service, the case is generally very grubby but all parts appear to be present. See images for guidance, personal viewing advised.
