Withdrawn from sale - Following the extremely sad news of Bernie Marsden’s passing last week, it has been decided that the sale of the Bernie Marsden Collection will be postponed until further notice. Bernie was one of the most loved figures in the guitar community and following discussions with the family we have decided there should be an appropriate period before any event takes place as a mark of respect. We will make a further announcement regarding a future sale date following this period of mourning.

Gardiner Houlgate

Bernie Marsden - Whitesnake era 1980 Gibson Flying V2 electric guitar, made in USA,
ser. no. 80440008; Body: natural walnut and maple, minor dings and marks throughout; Neck: good; Fretboard: ebony; Frets: good; Electrics: working; Hardware: minor tarnishing and oxidisation; Case: original hard case bearing 'Bernie Marsden Whitesnake' stencil to the case lid; Weight: 3.52kg; Overall condition: good

*Given to Bernie by a Gibson rep whilst on tour in Japan in 1980, this guitar features on page 247 of Bernie's book 'Tales of Tone and Volume' where he recounts the story: 'I had never played the guitar until that night's gig in Tokyo. Barry (Bernie's tech) set it up, restrung the shiny V II and promised the rep I would use it that night. I used it that night for an instrumental song. Barry passed the guitar to me - three thousand people watching and he forgot to switch my Marshall back on, or so I thought - I was gesturing and shouting for him to turn the bloody amp on, but it was on - the stylish boomerang shaped V pickups had almost zero output compared with The Beast'
