** This violin maker famously made a violin to commemorate the Titanic catastrophe of 1912. On the back of this instrument, painted in oils, is a portrait of Wallace Hartley (violinist conductor of the Titanic band) and another painting depicting the Titanic. This fact is also recorded in William Henley - Universal Dictionary of Violin & Bow Makers. The instrument is also sold with a copy of an illustrated article written by Fiona Sinclair of The Lancashire Sinfonietta about the aforementioned Titanic violin, which was donated to the Burnley Music Centre in 1974
