Square piano by John Hills, London, circa 1815, the mahogany case crossbanded with various woods primarily satinwood, the fascia board veneered with sycamore and crossbanded with rosewood and inscribed John Hills, Piano Forte Maker, 9, London Road, Obelisk, London surmounted by the Royal Coat of Arms of George III, over a long concave drawer flanked by two short drawers, the five and a half octave keyboard, FF to c4, with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals, double action with mop stick over-dampers, pedal operated damper lift, raised on six turned leg with ebonised rings terminating in brass caps and castors, width 66.5", depth 23 1/2"
* The piano was restored by David Winston of The Period Piano Company, by Appointment to HM The Queen; and featured in the film ‘Emma” starring Gwyneth Paltrow.

** Only one (square) piano is credited to Hills in Clinkscale [1700-1820 vol., p 145] which is probably this instrument.

The general condition of this piano is a little poor, there are cracks in the sound board and missing wood and veneer on the case which we do not have, the keys all function. See images for guidance, personal viewing advised.
