Longleat House, Wiltshire Interest - Klaftenberger 18ct (0.755) half hunter lever pocket watch presented to Donald Lessiter Marks (Butler to Henry Frederick Thynne, 6th Marquess of Bath), gilt frosted bar movement, no. 289828, with bi-metallic compensated balance with gold screws, blued steel hairspring and regulator, 18ct (0.755) hinged cuvette signed 'Klaftenberger, Watchmaker to the Queen & H.R.H. The Prince of Wales, 457 Regent Street, London, no. 12602', enamel dial with Roman numerals, minute track and subsidiary seconds, blued steel hands, within a plain case, no. 5 176551, with presentation inscription dated January 1951, 91.1gm, 48mm; with an 18ct watch figaro link watch Albert chain, with clasp and loop, 19.7gm, 15'' long (2)

** sold with a 1949 first edition copy of the book 'Longleat - Sr John Thynne, Builder of Longleat, By The Marchioness of Bath', hand signed by Lord Bath 6th Marquess of Bath in biro to the title page; also a later edition of the book with updated family tree after the most recent marriage and birth of Silvy Cerne.

** Sold with three personal letters addressed to Donald from the 6th Marquess of Bath, a personal reference letter and a gratitude card for Sylvy's party (his daughter)  

** Donald Lessiter Marks was the butler to Henry Frederick Thynne, 6th Marquess of Bath for thirty-five years.

** The case inscription reads: 'This watch belonged to my father and was presented by me to Donald Marks in appreciation of twenty-one years loyal and devoted service to myself and my family, Bath 6th Marquess, January 1951'

Movement - currently functioning.
Dial - some light surface marks.
Glass - minor light surface marks.
Hands - generally good, some small tarnish marks.
Case - some mild bruising to the case sides, some rubbing to the enamel eight and nine numerals to the front cover, small mild tarnish mark to the lower edge of the front cover, general light surface marks, some marks and indentations to the bow, 18ct hinged cuvette.
Crown - adjusting correctly.
Chain - one of the middle long links is slightly misshapen, otherwise chain in overall good condition with general light surface marks.
